Colds, Playset and Elmo!

Its been a busy week in the Grinstead house and a bit of a tough one, health wise. It started off with Ella who came home from the sitter last Thursday covered in a rash that would come and go on her legs, arms, face and back. She was otherwise acting fine but I called the pediatrician to see what they would say and they said there are tons of viral rashes going around and just to watch it and let them know if it hung around more than a week. Thankfully after a few days a few doses of Benadryl, her rash disappeared and was followed with a cold. We had several days of a major runny nose and horrible cough which led to little eating and Miss Ella just wasn't quite herself. A few days later, Brody boy woke up with a little gunk in his eyes and it seems he has caught the cold as well. Thankfully he did not develop a rash but has a runny nose and quite a cough. Bless his heart he hasn't stopped being a smiley little guy though and it hasn't seemed to affect his temperament as of yet and of course not his eating! :) Jeff has also been under the weather this week with a bad cold and cough so I supposed it was inevitable that I would get it too. Thursday morning I woke up with a bad sore throat and headache and just was SO tired. I chalked it up to a busy week but the sore throat kept getting worse and by Friday it felt like I was swallowing glass. I debated about whether to go to the doctor because I didn't want to waste the time if they were just going to tell me it was a common cold but at the same time didn't want to leave strep untreated and potentially expose my family. So I sucked it up and went to Doctor's Now on Friday afternoon as soon as my students left. Let me tell you it was not a fun experience. I waited in the waiting room for 1.5 hours!!! There were only two people ahead of me and I was told when I got there that it would just be a few minutes. UGH. The doctor's office was the last place I wanted to be on a Friday afternoon! They did the rapid strep test and it came back negative. Even more frustrating. However, the doctor said that he could see white bumps in my throat and that it looked and sounded like classic strep to him so he prescribed Z-pack for me. He said if the antibiotics clear it up within 24-48 hours then it was most likely strep. If not, then it is a virus. I was a mess on Friday night- just SO tired and run down and my throat felt like it was being sliced open. I took the meds and some tylenol and went right to bed when the kids did. Thank the Lord Ella slept all through the night and Brody just woke at 4:30 for a quick bottle so I was able to get some good rest and feel a lot better this morning. My throat feels a ton better.

I think one of the hardest things about being a Mommy is when you get sick. Knock on wood, besides the hyperemesis with Brody I am generally usually healthy but man, when I get sick it is just SO hard. There have been days when all I want to do is crawl into bed and sleep for 2 days straight but I have two little ones that need me so I kind of have to put my needs on the back burner. Thankfully Jeff is so wonderful and steps in to help out a ton but he can't do it all and my Mommy guilt kicks in when I am spending time away from them. The good news is, cuddles from my babies are some of the BEST medicine! :)

In other news, Ella's "park" is almost done! It is finished enough for her to play on it and she is having a blast. She loves to climb up the different climbers as fast as she can and go down the slide on her belly! I love seeing her stand on the bridge and wave at me with a huge grin on her face! Jeff installed the steering wheel and telescope this week so she is having fun with those. He is outside with my dad right now working on the tube slide so hopefully that will be finished up soon. I also plan to pick up the baby swing when I go get groceries later today so then Big B can play too!

Ella, my mom and I also went to Elmo Live this morning at Wells Fargo. Ella had an absolute blast. We took her last year and she enjoyed it but this year she was much more excited and into it! My dad got us awesome seats- second row in the aisle so we were so close to the stage and Ella even got to touch two of the characters when they came down to dance. She was grinning from ear to ear and bouncing around on my lap to the music. What a fun morning! To make it even better, when we got home, Jeff had cleaned the whole house and it looked awesome! Thanks honey!

One more week of school to go and then we are DONE for the summer! Yay! It will be a busy week of packing up all my stuff (moving rooms) and keeping all the students who are pretty much "checked out" occupied and on task for the next five days. I can't wait until Friday when we can celebrate! I am looking forward to spending the next few months at home with Brody and Ella! Looks like we will be spending lots of time outside :)
